The American Lung Association has warned consumers of unhealthy indoor air quality from burning paraffin wax candles.
Paraffin wax releases black soot which over time leaves an unpleasant coating on everything in the room. Soy wax candles burn at a lower temperature so they last longer.

SOYBEAN CANDLE BURNING INSTRUCTIONS
Place candle on a heat resistant surface away from anything that could be damaged by heat or catch fire.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Keep candles out of reach of children, pets and away from drafts.
Keep soybean oil pool free of match stubs, clippings and other flammable material.
DO NOT trim the wick before first light.
EACH TIME the candle is burned, allow the candle to burn long enough for entire surface to liquefy and the melted soybean oil reaches the edge of the jar,
(At this time you may want to continue to burn the candle or extinguish it).
Keep wick centered when burning.
When extinguishing the flame, snuff it out by laying the lid on top of jar. This prevents the "ball" on top of the wick from being blown into the hot liquid, and keeps the white smoke in the jar. This will not turn the jar black. Before each burning (excluding the first one.) trim the wick back to 1/4" and discard the clipping before lighting.
